About the pattern
Wilmer Mittens are worked from the cuff, with stockinette stitch on the back and a textured pattern on the front. For the four largest sizes, stitches for the thumb are placed on a contrasting thread then picked up later, to then be knitted in the round. Note that different needle sizes are used for the different sizes, leading to variations in gauge.
